The Morrison Agencies building is attached to the building that formerly housed The Bargain Shop (to the west), and is owned by the Municipality of Deloraine Winchester. Council studied the feasibility of renovating the building versus putting up a new building. The most sensible answer was the latter, and to that end council has been communicating with a potential investor.
Upon learning this news, McMechan said they realized Morrison Agencies’ west wall was attached to The Bargain Shop east wall.
“We knew something had to happen. So, when the news of the Royal Bank closing came out, it became a win/win for both of us. We could purchase and have ownership of a newer building, and then the town could have our building, to have yet more space for a potential new structure,” she said.
The Royal Bank closed its Deloraine branch in September 2022. The building is located on the southwest corner of the four-way stop on Main and Broadway.
When Don Morrison heard the news of The Bargain Shop coming down his reaction was “I hope they know there are party walls on either side of the office. When the Rendezvous Restaurant was built (to the east), they knew there was a party wall, so they built a concrete wall adjacent to the existing wall.
“It is great news about Morrison Agencies going over to the bank building and I hope it is not too long before a new building is put up to replace the corner lot,” he concluded.
The signs are up on the new building, including Morrison Agencies, Meighen Haddad, Doug Morningstar Financial and Alliance Accounting.
“We hope to move in the very near future and be officially opened in our new building by the end of March,” concluded McMechan.
