As Perkins said, Patterson had hand built his display with attention to detail, and upon his passing, his family donated the display to the municipality so the public could continue to enjoy it. Moving it into the new spot in the Wildlife Museum was very fitting.

“The model railway is a unique attraction with a special history, so we felt it was very important to have a celebratory event to kick off the completion of the work and celebrate its new permanent home at the museum. The Boissevain Model Railway exhibit features Earl Patterson’s model railway collection that has been reconfigured and restored for its new location within the museum.”

“You can see the fascination on the faces of visitors to the railway and it’s a hit with museum goers of all ages.”

Relocating everything took a lot of planning and volunteer work. Perkins said they owe a debt of gratitude to Stan Peck for his hard work, leadership and dedication. He takes great pride in the train display and it shows with what is in the museum now. Perkins also gave credit to Sharon Peck, who has been working on painting, refreshing and landscaping the exhibit.

“Stan and Sharon have recruited a group of local railway enthusiasts who have been assisting with work on the railway as well and we are most grateful for every one of these volunteers and contributors,” Perkins said. “When you see the model railway in person it’s pretty remarkable and it is all thanks to this crew of behind-the-scenes volunteers and staff.”

As well as the ribbon cutting and opening ceremonies, visitors enjoyed cake, scavenger hunts and other goodies. The museum is open with its wildlife exhibits and artisan market. Hours are 10am to 6pm seven days a week. Perkins said they have a great staff including summer students and are looking forward to a great season.

“The summer ahead is looking positive so far with guided tours and school tours planning their field trips to the Wildlife Museum and Boissevain-Morton Aquatic Centre.”
